Supporting sectors

In Audit New Zealand, we put a lot of effort into providing support for different sectors.

Which sectors do we support?

Our primary purpose is the protection and enhancement of public sector excellence. In this way, we support the Auditor-General's responsibility to lead the improvement of public sector accountability and performance.

The largest sectors are the central government and Crown entity, health, local government, and tertiary education sectors. We're starting to do a lot more for the energy sector, too, and may include that sector on our website in the not-too-distant future.

How do we support the sectors?

We support the sectors in many different ways. Our support is designed to help entities prepare and produce financial statements that will be as easy and inexpensive to audit as possible, and help them to adopt best practice methods throughout their organisations.

We:

  • have produced a range of newsletters to keep the different sectors up to date with changes in auditing requirements and other news
  • run training sessions to help entities prepare for being audited
  • present papers and speeches to sector interest groups, and
  • make sure our Sector Chairs (our senior staff with extensive sector knowledge) are readily available.
