Application tips
Here are some tips to get your application off to a good start.
Cover letter
In your cover letter you're selling the most important commodity you've got - you! So we want you to expand on your CV and let us know:
- why you want to join our grad programme
- why you'd make an awesome grad
- your relevant qualifications and experience
- the location you're applying for (or let us know if you're flexible about where you're initially based)
This is also your opportunity to let us know what makes you special - whether it's work experience, study background, or something else that makes you stand out from the crowd.
Your cover letter should be about one A4 page long, and yes, spelling does count!
CV
Your CV is basically a snapshot of what you've done and when, and should include:
Personal Info
- full name (and preferred name if different)
- contact address
- e-mail address
- phone number
- whether you are a NZ citizen or permanent resident, or if you'll need to apply for a work permit.
Education & Training
- degrees and qualifications you’ve gained (including dates and institutions)
- any other relevant training or skills
- when you will complete the requirements for provisional admission to NZICA.
Employment History
- previous employers (including dates employed, duties performed and reasons for leaving)
- any unpaid/volunteer work experience.
General
- Use a font that's easy to read
- Check and double-check spelling and grammar
- Ensure that the formatting and colour scheme of your application does not distract from the content.
