Career paths
Here's what a typical career progression looks like at Audit New Zealand.

Pre-CA qualification
Interns join us after their 3rd year at university and get 9 weeks of on-the-job work experience and, in most cases, an offer to join Audit New Zealand as an Assistant Auditor once they graduate.
AA1s become skilled in auditing various account balances and begin working on a portfolio of clients from Day One.
AA2s may lead small client audits and will coach the AA1s. By the end of their second year they have experience with planning and completing a full audit cycle. This is the year they’ll sit PCE1.
AA3s are responsible for the full completion of the audit of small- to medium-sized clients, including managing AA1s and AA2s and reporting to senior executives. This is the year they’ll sit PCE2 and become a Chartered Accountant.
Post-CA qualification
Auditors are CA qualified. By the conclusion of their first post-qualifying year, they will have a good appreciation of risk identification in management across a number of sectors as well as be fully competent in carrying out an audit.
Supervising Seniors become highly skilled at juggling a number of audit engagements and contributing to strategic business initiatives. They will also begin a leadership development programme. Some high performing Supervising Seniors will be invited to begin a Manager Readiness Programme.
Managers work across a number of areas of the business. They will be responsible for practice management; assigning staff to appropriate clients, mentoring and coaching staff, and ensuring that audits are completed to a high standard.
Associate Directors develop the key strategic leadership skills required of our Directors and often function as a Director for our small clients. This role is an important stepping stone to becoming a Director.
Directors are responsible for guiding and leading the direction of Audit New Zealand as a professional services firm. They are authorised to sign audit opinions on behalf of the Auditor-General, and responsible for managing client relationships.
