Leaving South Africa wasn't an easy decision for my family, but I wanted my one-year-old son to grow up with a sense of security about his future.

We decided to settle in the Hamilton area; the cost of living is quite reasonable, it’s beautiful, and very family orientated. Buying a house didn’t take long – my wife fell in love with one of the first ones we saw and that was that!

At Audit New Zealand knowledge-sharing and mentoring are really important, but I have a lot of ownership of my work as well. The combination of autonomy and collaboration here creates a really great working environment.

We didn’t expect the move to New Zealand to be an easy one – but it has actually been surprisingly smooth! Part of it is just the Kiwi culture, and part of it is that Audit New Zealand has exceeded our expectations. My family has been very well looked after in terms of subsidising flights and shipping and helping us to get settled in. I feel like we’re very well placed to thrive in our new country.
