Auditing city, district, and regional councils is a big part of what we do at Audit New Zealand and it's one of my favourite parts of the job. Local Government affects everyone’s life in some way, from the rates they pay to the parks they play in, so helping our clients to operate more effectively and efficiently is very rewarding.

In New Zealand we're on the leading edge of some global trends in Local Government; our Long Term Council Community Plans actually require councils to figure out how they will deal with waste, infrastructure, and sustainability issues ten years into the future, while balancing "what is affordable". These are real issues facing every community and I enjoy working with councils to help figure out what they’re going to do to tackle those issues.

Those conversations aren’t always easy, but when a client thanks you and tells you that they really value your perspective, it feels great. That makes me feel like I’m really making a tangible difference to New Zealand.
