Kala Teo Svijian
Supervising Senior, Christchurch. At Audit New Zealand since 2005.
One of the things I enjoy most about working at Audit New Zealand is the travel we do. The Christchurch and Dunedin offices audit pretty much all of our South Island clients, and I really like visiting all the local councils and learning a bit about each community. Everyone uses local government services, but nobody ever thinks about how the roads are maintained or the management of their local library.
Clients will sometimes take us on tours of their facilities so that we can learn more about what they do and how they operate. For example, last year, the Port of Otago took us up in one of their giant cranes so that we could see how they move all those giant containers from the wharf to the ship. It helps us to provide them with a better audit if we have a strong understanding of their business.
Now that I'm a Supervising Senior, providing client service has become an even more important part of my role. I like interacting with clients and making sure that they feel that we're adding value to their work and helping them to improve their performance as an organisation.
