Mark Edwards
Assistant Auditor, Tauranga. At Audit New Zealand since 2008.
When I went back to uni after my first career, I was interested in auditing because it looks at all the parts of an organisation and how they work together – it's more than just bean counting, it's about building a picture of your client's performance by analysing different details.
At Audit New Zealand, we're not stuck in an office all day. We work at client sites mostly, and with such a huge range of clients that can be anything or anywhere! My clients include District Health Boards, tertiary institutions, and local authorities all over the North Island.
Working across different sectors like that also helps you to create context and understand your clients' needs and issues better – you can take what you learn on one job and see if it's applicable to another. I feel like that kind of experience keeps me constantly growing and developing new skills.
