Lyn Daken
Associate Director, Specialist Assurance Services

Lyn has worked for Audit New Zealand since 1983, initially in the audit business, but since 1999 in the Specialist Assurance Services team. Lyn has a particular interest in procurement, contract management, project management, and performance reporting.
Lyn has completed a wide range of assurance assignments in the procurement area for entities in the central government, Crown entity, health, education, and local government sectors, covering an extensive variety of procurement and contract methods, including alliances. Lyn was also instrumental in preparing and delivering a report to Parliament on performance reporting in the public sector. Other assurance experience includes reviewing contract and project management policies and practices in the central government, health, and local government sectors.
Francis Caetano
Audit Director

Francis has been at Audit New Zealand since May 2000. His current portfolio includes clients in the local government, council-controlled organisations, hospital and health services, tertiary education, Maori trust boards, and the Crown entity sectors.
Francis' extensive experience spans more than 20 years in both the private and public sectors, in the fields of auditing, accounting, taxation, business, and management advisory services.
John Scott
Audit Director

John joined Audit New Zealand in 2005. He is responsible for entities in the local government and energy sectors.
John spent 10 years in private practice focusing on auditing, accounting, taxation, and business advisory services. He also spent five years specializing in the public sector - central government with a public works focus, local and regional government, council-controlled operations, Crown entities, energy companies, Maori trust boards, schools, and licensing trusts. John has also spent time with the United Nations in New York, helping with the UN audit.
Karen MacKenzie
Audit Director

Karen joined the Christchurch office of Audit New Zealand just as it was being established in 1992. Over the years, she has had a broad range of public sector auditing experience including audits in the tertiary, health, energy, licensing trust, local government, and central government sectors. She moved to Auckland in 1999 to take up a Director's position and now works part time while she juggles being a mum to two young boys. Her current portfolio includes clients in the local government, tertiary, and airport sectors.
Alan Clifford
Director, Information Systems Audit and Assurance

Alan joined Audit New Zealand in July 2007. He leads the national Information Systems Audit and Assurance team. Alan has provided a range of information technology audit and consultancy services such as project assurance, information technology operational effectiveness reviews, benchmarking exercises, support to internal audit functions, and risk management reviews for a large number of corporations and public sector entities. Alan has 19 years of information technology and consultancy experience obtained in the United Kingdom and New Zealand.
Before joining us Alan was with Vodafone, delivering the Vodafone NZ Sarbanes-Oxley (s404) programme. He was also working in an operational management capacity leading Vodafone New Zealand’s Revenue Assurance function. Before he worked for Vodafone New Zealand, Alan was Director, Risk Advisory Services with KMPG having national responsibility for the Information Systems Governance and Project Assurance service lines. Outside of professional services firms Alan spent several years with Internal Audit where he led a team of financial and business auditors in the technology complex environment of the United Kingdom’s financial services.
David Walker
Audit Director

David joined Audit New Zealand in May 2007, and works on audits in our local government and tertiary education sector groups.
David has more than 15 years experience in professional firms in New Zealand and abroad. His work experience includes both private and public sectors covering auditing, accounting, taxation, information systems, and business and management advisory services. David's relevant commercial experience includes several years with a New Zealand listed company covering risk management, and consulting to a couple of District Health Boards.
Leon Pieterse
Associate Director

Leon joined Audit New Zealand in May 2008. He manages a range of clients in the health, crown entity, and central government sectors.
Leon's experience spans 20 years in the private sector, focusing on auditing, accounting, taxation, and business advisory services.
Simon Tran
Audit Manager

Simon first worked for Audit New Zealand from 1996 to 1998 and rejoined in 2006. His auditing portfolio includes Crown entities, local government entities, State-Owned Enterprises and tertiary education institutes.
Before rejoining us, Simon spent two years in England managing audits of public and private sector clients with an international accounting firm. This was followed by six years in the private sector in New Zealand. In addition to his public sector audit experience, Simon brings experience in managing audits of publicly listed companies, managing liquidations and receiverships, and providing advice and accounting services to the private sector.
Catherine Trussler
Audit Manager

Catherine joined Audit New Zealand in June 2007. She manages a range of clients in the local government, health, crown entity, and tertiary sectors, and is assisting with reviews of clients’ conversion to NZ IFRS.
Catherine has joined us from the United Kingdom, where she had nearly 20 years’ experience in the public services audit environment. Having trained with the National Audit Office, Catherine then worked as a Deputy Chief Internal Auditor for the States of Jersey (Channel Islands, Great Britain) and then joined Price Waterhouse. Catherine worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers for 10 years, focusing primarily on providing internal audit, risk management, and corporate governance services to clients in the public services, chiefly in the education and health sectors.
Emma Boddy
Audit Manager

Emma joined Audit New Zealand in January 2008. She manages a range of clients in the local government, health, and tertiary sectors.
Emma is on a two year contract from PricewaterhouseCoopers in the UK, where she has more than 7 years experience working in the external audit environment. She specialised in the UK in the health and tertiary sectors, where she was involved in managing a number of audits as well as carrying out a number of one-off projects. In addition to her audit manager responsibilities, Emma had an active interest in the development of staff and staff recruitment. Before joining Audit New Zealand, Emma had enjoyed a 5-month internal secondment to the Learning and Development Division at PricewaterhouseCoopers where she gained experience in tutoring and course design.
Timneen Taljard
Audit Manager

Timneen joined Audit New Zealand in April 2008. Her portfolio includes a variety of clients including Council–Controlled Operations, Crown Entities, Local Government, and Maori Trust Boards.
Timneen has 11 years of audit experience. She was an audit partner at a mid-tier audit firm in South Africa and focused mainly on the private sector. Timneen contributed to the technical compliance of the firm's audit methodology and quality control. She also has a keen interest in the development and mentoring of the young professionals of the future.
Robert Sutherland
Audit Manager

Robert worked at Audit New Zealand from 1998 to 2001 and rejoined in 2006. His current audit portfolio includes Crown entities, Energy sector companies, local government entities, Māori Trust Boards, and tertiary education institutions.
Robert's previous work experience includes private sector audit management and financial accounting roles in the transport and banking sectors, both in New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
