Bede Kearney
Audit Director

Bede has been with Audit New Zealand since 1976. He has a wide range of both commercial and service-oriented clients. He is the chair of our local government sector group, has been involved in the Society of Local Government Managers' legal compliance project from its inception, and is a member of SOLGM's financial management working party. Bede has presented at numerous local government forums on a variety of topics.
Bede is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand.
Andy Burns
Audit Director

Andy joined us in November 2007 and specialises in health and local government work. He also leads our Health sector group (taking over from Stephen Lucy) that provides guidance to staff and clients on sector issues and developments.
Andy has 20 years’ experience in auditing in the public sector. Before joining Audit New Zealand, he worked for the Audit Commission in the United Kingdom as an appointed auditor and managed a portfolio of large local government and health bodies. Andy also held a separate role for the Audit Commission as relationship manager for local government bodies, which involved co-ordinating its Comprehensive Performance Assessment regime. Andy’s career has also included working for Ernst & Young, and he trained in local government.
Julian Tan
Audit Director

Julian first worked for Audit New Zealand in our Hamilton Office from 1993 to 1995, and then re-joined us in May 2005. His current portfolio includes entities in the local government, tertiary education, utilities, health, and research sectors. Julian leads our tertiary education sector group.
Before returning to Audit New Zealand, Julian was a Director with an accounting and advisory firm in Singapore. A former governor of the Institute of Internal Auditors Singapore, he has a particular interest in helping organisations improve their corporate reporting practices, governance and control structures.
Scott Tobin
Audit Director

Scott joined Audit New Zealand in 1996. Scott specialises in the local government sector, and had a leading role in developing and applying the audit methodology for (and review of) local authorities' Long-Term Council Community Plans. He is a member of Audit New Zealand's local government sector group. Scott's audit experience also encompasses a range of other public sector clients, including crown entities, tertiary institutions, energy companies, and many commercially-focused public sector organisations.
Scott has also supported clients through reviews of critical organisational aspects of their business. These have included reviews of major capital project management, internal controls including fraud, and asset management planning.
John Mackey
Associate Director

John joined us in July 2008 and specialises in local government and tertiary education work.
Before joining Audit New Zealand, John was an Associate Director with Deloitte specialising in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and taxation.
He worked for 13 years for Christchurch City Council in various financial and internal audit roles. This work included leading the joint Office of the Auditor-General/Society of Local Government Managers pilot project for the implementation of IFRS in local government.
John has also worked for Firestone in financial and internal audit roles, and started his career as an auditor with Ernst & Young.
Ian Lothian
Audit Director

Ian joined Audit New Zealand as Audit Director in September 2008. His portfolio includes a range of clients in the local government, health, and tertiary education sectors.
Ian came to New Zealand in 1982 on transfer from his Chartered Accountancy firm in Scotland as Audit Manager, later becoming Audit Partner and National Human Resources Director for his firm in New Zealand. On leaving private practice, Ian gained considerable experience in a range of financial management roles within the tertiary education, local government, and horticultural processing and exporting sectors, before spending five years in development finance as Group Financial Controller for the UK-based Commonwealth Development Corporation. Ian joins us from Canterbury University, where he has been involved since 2004 in the management of change following the University’s restructure into separate Colleges.
Robyn Wells
Research and Assurance Specialist

Robyn joined Audit New Zealand in 2002 in a research and auditing role. She specialises in non-financial performance reporting and consultation processes. Her work includes researching and providing guidance on good practice, as well as undertaking reviews and audit work.
Robyn has had a variety of positions in the public service, including three years in the London Borough of Hackney as a research officer. Robyn has also worked at Parliament as a clerk of various select committees and for the Office of the Auditor-General as a senior performance auditor.
Adrian Hayes
Audit Manager

Adrian came to Audit New Zealand in 2006. He is responsible for a range of clients in the local government, health, tertiary education, energy, and airport sectors.
Before joining us, Adrian spent 10 years working for a USA-based multinational manufacturing conglomerate. Before that, he was at Coopers & Lybrand based in both the United Kingdom and New Zealand.
Cristin Dyer
Audit Manager

Cristin first joined Audit New Zealand in 1990. He is responsible for managing a range of clients in a variety of sectors, including local government, tertiary education, and electricity distribution.
In 2004, Cristin took a career break. He taught English in Japan before returning to Audit New Zealand in 2006.
Andrew Timlin
Audit Manager

Andrew first worked for Audit New Zealand from 2000 to 2003, and rejoined in July 2006. He has responsibility for a range of South Island clients within the local government, crown entity, tertiary, and licensing trust sectors.
Before rejoining Audit New Zealand, Andrew worked in the financial services sector in Ireland for a reinsurance company in various roles, including responsibility for Sarbanes-Oxley and reinsurance compliance.
Ruth Farrell
Audit Manager

Ruth joined Audit New Zealand in November 2005. She has responsibility for a range of clients in the South Island within the local government, tertiary, and health sectors.
Ruth has over 10 years’ experience in the auditing profession. Before joining Audit New Zealand Ruth worked for a regional audit firm in the United Kingdom as a senior auditor, with a portfolio of commercial clients of varying sizes.
Jacqueline Killick
Audit Manager

Jacqueline joined Audit New Zealand in January 2009. She has responsibility for a range of clients in the South Island within the local government, tertiary, and health sectors. Jacqueline has accounting and auditing experience.
Before joining Audit New Zealand Jacqueline worked in the financial services sector in the United Kingdom with responsibility covering compliance, risk management and Sarbanes-Oxley.
Hugh Jory
Audit Manager

Hugh joined Audit New Zealand as a graduate in March 2004. He is responsible for a range of clients in the South Island, including those in the local government, energy distribution, and health sectors.
