Our audit services
It's our job to help public sector organisations have better financial and non-financial management.
Independent audits play an essential role in the stewardship of public resources and corporate governance of public services. Those who perform this important work must meet the Auditor-General’s obligation to promote public sector transparency and accountability with independence, integrity, and professional confidentiality that all organisations have a right to expect from their auditors.
Sensitive to the Local Government environment
Audit New Zealand has significant expertise in meeting these needs. This experience is born of our long involvement with, and understanding of, the political processes and relationships inherent in Local Government. As a public sector organisation, we are well aware of the sensitivities you face.
Specialist sector knowledge
Our in-house sector group comprises senior staff who are experts in auditing Local Government. They help develop the Office of the Auditor-General’s sector briefs, actively contribute to sector forums and working parties, provide tailored training for clients and staff, and ensure that all our staff working in Local Government are up to date on the latest developments affecting the sector.
LTCCP audits
The requirement for Councils to have their LTCCPs audited is unique to New Zealand and this presents challenges and opportunities for local authorities and their auditors. Our people have thorough knowledge of the legislative framework and a sound understanding of the political, public, and operational processes involved. While our primary responsibility is to provide assurance to your community that your LTCCP is based on sound principles and processes, we are also keen to add value to your LTCCP and to your organisation.
Audit New Zealand’s Local Government sector expertise allows us to identify and share areas of evolving good practice with our clients.
